Interest Groups

Mission

The mission of the interests groups is to give CAA members an opportunity to gather informally around common archival subjects in the Chicago area. Join an Interest Group or consider starting a group of interest to you and fellow CAA members.

Current Interest Groups

Archives and Archivists of Color Group

A forum for discussion related to issues and current events facing archivists of color, as well as archival collections concerning people of color.

Topics at discussion group may include but are not limited to:

  • Ethnic diversity in the archives field
  • Publications relating to archives and people of color
  • Collections acquisitions, management and outreach of archives of color

    Business Archives Group

    A gathering for corporate and association archivists to meet and discuss their collections, and challenges presented by their unique organizations

    Topics at discussion group may include but are not limited to:

    • Records Management
    • Oral Histories
    • Public Digital Libraries
    • Collection Policies
    • Intern programs

    Curating and Exhibitions Group

    The goals of the Curating and Exhibition Interest Group is to engage members and non-members in dialogues about best practices, emerging trends, and resources in curating and exhibiting archives and special collections in libraries.

    Topics at discussion group may include but are not limited to:

    • Teaching and learning exhibition development for archivists (and librarians)
    • Curating exhibitions in academic libraries
    • Exhibition policies
    • Digital exhibitions
    • Diversity and inclusion in exhibition design
    • Interpretive planning
    • Community-curated projects
    CAA members can share information about exhibits at their institutions using this form.

    Religious Archives and Collections Group

    The goal of this group is to gather archivists of religious collections to meet and discuss emerging trends, best practices, and share ideas and resources that uniquely pertain to religious collections and archives.

    Topics of discussion may include but are not limited to:

    • Confidentiality as it pertains to religious collections
    • Collections management
    • Special and controlled vocabularies

    To join an existing Interest Group, email info@chicagoarchivists.org.

    To create a new Interest Group, please complete the Interest Group form and submit it to CAA Steering Committee. There is also a document to share Interest Group ideas as well as Interest Group Guidelines to help members interested in forming a new Group.

    Interest Groups have access to many resources to facilitate their activities including CAA membership information; a dedicated CAA Zoom account for meetings and events; use of the CAA Events page for sharing event information and registration; use of the CAA News page to post news, event wrap-ups, and blog posts; and use of CAA's communication tools, including member email and listserv.
