The Douglas Hall time capsule, a copper box, was sealed behind a cornerstone during the dorm’s construction in 1962. Douglas Hall was open to residents in 1963. The time capsule was removed and placed in the University Archives when the Hall was demolished in the summer of 2014.
The opening of the time capsule to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the dorm’s opening will occur at 1:00 PM and will tentatively take place near the Founders Memorial Library at the NIU Alumni Association tent in The Yard next to Huskie Stadium on Saturday, October 13 (noon to 2:00PM). Items found within the capsule will be available for viewing on the Library’s table for the remainder of the pre-game event (approx. 1:30-2:00PM).
This event is free.
