    Job Description:

    Reporting to the Special Collections Librarian for Public Services, the Assistant Reference Archivist will provide reference service to our diverse community, support researchers in accessing and utilizing the unique archival and special collections materials, and actively engage in informal instruction opportunities. They will address a wide range of research requests, offer guidance on navigating digital and print resources, and provide in-person and virtual reference services. Assisting with providing access to our materials, the Assistant Reference Archivist will also process, describe, and accession archival and manuscript collections.

    While scholarship and external service are not required by unit norms, instructors are encouraged to be professionally active and are allocated professional development funds.

    Requirements:

    +Knowledge and work experience in archival processing and reference and library instruction.
    +Public service or customer service experience required.
    +Demonstrated ability to work independently and take individual initiative while also being able to collaborate effectively and contribute positively in a team environment.
    +Ability to maintain confidentiality with donor and patron information and records.

    Education:

    Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or an advanced/graduate degree related to the position and formal coursework in archival administration by the start of employment

    The National Archives at Chicago is looking for an Archives Technician to help with a broad range of functions including reference, processing records, and digitizing records.

    Responsibilities:

    ·       Provide written or oral "first-line" reference assistance and consultation, respond to all forms of inquiry concerning NARA's archival holdings, in original or surrogate format, by using complex finding aid systems and related archival sources, in both electronic and analog formats.

    ·       Perform detailed and complex arrangement work following a plan (or guidance) approved by supervisor or team leader.

    ·       Independently evaluate the physical condition of records in the course of other duties and alerts supervisor or other designated staff to condition problems that limit access or threaten the safety of records.

    ·       Prepare online catalog descriptions of holdings at all levels according to NARA lifecycle standards, policies, and procedures.

    Associate Library Director, Access Services, Art Institute of Chicago

    Job description:

    Reporting to the Director and working closely with the Ryerson and Burnham Libraries team, the Associate Director, Access Services, is responsible for managing electronic resources for the library and providing a diverse group of patrons with reference, instruction, and interlibrary loan services in a fast-paced, public-service oriented environment. This role manages the Libraries’ Access Services staff, participates in collection development and curatorial department outreach, and manages offsite storage, including selecting material and managing the logistics of transportation. The position serves as an active member of the Library leadership team in the creation of reading room and circulation policies and procedures.

    Requirements:

    At least two years of experience with electronic resources management and reference service is required. Library instruction experience strongly preferred
    - Knowledge of cataloging rules, standards, and tools; cataloging experience with electronic resources
    - A thorough understanding of issues related to electronic resources, including vendors, packages, aggregators, platforms, licensing, pricing models, and financial and statistical management
    - Excellent oral and written communication skills
    - Ability to work collaboratively with staff from all areas of the library and museum

    Education and experience:

    MLS from an ALA accredited program required. Educational background in Art History desirable. At least two years of supervisory experience
