Description: Assist the Manager of Records Management & Archives by documenting AMA's history through the processing and preservation of historical records; the intern will also be showcasing the AMA's history through the AMA History & Archives internal website, and in the Archives Research Center. The Archives team is looking for an intern during the summer of 2018, and is flexible with start and end dates.

To be part of the AMA is to be part of our Mission to promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health.  Join the AMA team as an Intern in Records and Archival Management.  As part of the team, you will assist the Manager of Records Management & Archives by documenting AMA's history through the processing and preservation of historical records; you will also be showcasing the AMA's history through the AMA History & Archives internal website, and in the Archives Research Center. As an intern in Archives, you will be a part of a team that serves as the memory of the Association.

Other Responsibilities will include:

  • Process and catalog a collection of film, objects and papers related to AMA history and AMA publication.
  • Prepare historical content for the internal employee blog.
  • Rehouse and reshelf collection materials related to the AMA history.
  • Prepare documents for scanning, and ingestion into digital asset management databases.
  • Other tasks assigned by Manager as relevant to the day to day operations of the AMA Archives.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Library science or similar graduate degree in process.
  • Interested in archives, libraries, history or medical history preferred.
  • Sensitivity towards handling old, fragile materials is very important.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge about film preservation helpful but not necessary.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite.
  • Ability to learn digital management asset system (Re:Discovery).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
