The CAA Events Subcommittee invites you to join your fellow archivists, librarians, and records managers for a tour of the Chicago Film Archives. Attendees will learn the ins and outs of a regional film archives, or more broadly, A-V archiving, with a tour of CFA's vault and office locations. The tour will also include a sampling of CFA's film inspection procedures as well as a DVD presentation of vault highlights.
WHAT: Chicago Film Archives is a regional film archives dedicated to identifying, collecting, preserving and providing access to films that represent the Midwest. CFA formed in late 2003 in order to preserve and bring public access to the Chicago Public Library’s collection of 4,500 16mm films, a collection the library could no longer keep. Over the past ten years, CFA has created a climate-controlled home for all Midwest films in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood and acquired more than 80 additional film collections (over 19,000 items). The forms and genres of their collections vary - from educational, industrial, amateur and experimental films to home movies.
